Our beliefs and values about birth…

We believe that birthwork is both personal and political. We believe that everyone deserves to have equal access to healthcare that is inclusive, and safe, both emotionally and physically. We believe in midwifery care for the childbearing year, and believe that everyone should have access to midwives.

We believe that pregnancy is not an illness or a condition, and that birth is a normal, natural and transformational experience. We believe that people intuitively know how to labour and birth, and feel that everyone supporting them needs to trust, support and respect this inner wisdom. We believe deeply in the sovereignty of birth, and that a person’s confidence in their ability to birth can be enhanced or diminished depending on who is caring for them and where they are birthing.

We believe families have the right to choose where and with whom they birth. Our passion is on breaking down the fears and misunderstandings surrounding birth that are so deeply rooted in our culture and in turn, our birth practices. We believe in making choices out of knowledge instead of fear, and so, we are dedicated to educating people about all of their birth options, including place of birth. We believe in and deeply value home birth, and choose to work with clients who plan to birth at home.

We want to take birth out of the system, and place it back into the hands of birthing families. We focus on providing families with the tools to mold their own birth experiences through preparation, education, and comprehensive resources. We do this so that when the time comes for a birth to unfold, we can be as hands off as possible. We try to impress upon the birthing person that we have every confidence that they can do it, and hold space so that they feel safe to go inward to find the strength to birth their baby in their own time.

All pregnant people are welcome here

We strive to be an inclusive collective that makes space for everyone regardless of their gender, sexual orientation or background. We use inclusive language such as “birthing person” as well as “woman” interchangeably, just the same as we use “partner” or “dad”. There is space for everyone in birth.
